Job Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director – Strategic Communications (Associate Athletic Director – Strategic Communications), the Strategic Communications Director, oversees the Strategic Communications for Men’s basketball as well as several other sports programs and assists with the social media posting for those sports. Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all game- day media management responsibilities for assigned sports programs including pre-game and post-game interviews, and media guidance for student-athletes. Is also responsible for game programs, game notes, game stats, and record books for the assigned teams. Produces and submits all necessary personnel and statistical reports as required by and in compliance with established American Athletic Conference and NCAA guidelines. Help create and execute social media plans for assigned sports to ensure that all aspects of programs are covered in a timely manner and integrate into overall departmental goals and University mission. Provide oversight and education to our student-athletes and staff to ensure best social media practices and standards are being met.
The position supports the University’s academic mission and programs by aligning Temple’s sports programs with the mission and values of the University. The Athletics Strategic Communications Coordinator will serve as spokesperson for the sports assigned, promoting our philosophy and values, and regularly engaging stakeholders and constituents; and may serve in the same role for other sports in the absence of their assigned Athletics Strategic Communications representative. The Athletics Strategic Communications Coordinator integrates and helps engage student-athletes, staff, and coaches into the programs and activities of the University and assists in developing a climate of trust, honesty, integrity and open communications while advocating for and committing to all aspects of diversity and inclusion—a climate where all constituents feel values, and differences are celebrated.
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field.
Minimum of three years of full-time experience in a field of professional or collegiate athletic communications required, or 5 years of equivalent experience in a field of public communications.
Preferred:
Demonstrated ability to lead a unit and develop, direct, and implement athletic communications efforts for a NCAA Division I program.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- The ability to manage several tasks and/or projects simultaneously. Strong proven communications skills, oral and written.
- Clear understanding of NCAA rules and compliance.
- Thorough understanding of the role of local and national media in assisting efforts in promoting Temple Athletics.
- Commitment to understand and support Temple University’s and Temple Athletics’ vision and values and to model those values.
- Ability to manage confidential material.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
